Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match winless start to the Premier League campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they start the search of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising choice given he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
